Dorothy A. Anderson

Dorothy Anderson, 92, of Chico Street, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (Oct. 19) at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Randy Land of First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the old section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. on Friday (Oct.18) at West Funeral Home.

Dorothy A. Anderson was born to Oliver and Ada Alline Scoggin on September 9, 1921 in Hope, NM. She was raised and educated in Hope, NM before marrying Samuel C. Lovejoy, Jr. and moving to Carlsbad.

Curtis Anderson and Dorothy were married in Artesia, NM in 1960. They made Artesia their home until returning to Carlsbad in 1970.

She worked for the US Government as the Eddy County Selective Service Clerk for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Dorothy loved cooking and her family enjoyed eating her cooking just as much as she loved preparing it for them. She loved gardening and took great pride in her yard and flower gardens. She was loved by many relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Oliver Scoggin and mother Alline Bell, husbands: Samuel C. Lovejoy, Jr. and Curtis W. Anderson, sons: Rell Lovejoy, David Anderson and Richard Stegall and brother, Lewis Scoggin.

Dorothy is survived by son John Anderson and wife Pat of Richmond, TX; grandchildren: Peyton Anderson of Houston, TX and Chad and wife Rachel Anderson of Allen, TX, Mike Stegall and wife Teresa of Artesia, Michelle Taylor and husband Randy of Artesia, six great-grandchildren, and long time friends Lewis Prude Means and Jennifer Moots.

Pallbearers will be: Peyton Anderson, Chad Anderson, Mike Stegall, Randy Taylor, Ruth Valdez and Wilma Duran.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Jennifer Moots, Martye Carpenter, Jazell Duran, Roger Jenkins, Glen Terry, Lewis Prude Means, Kearney Scoggin, Verlon Scoggin and Jerry Scoggin.
